The SUC is competent to accredit public or private academic institutions and programmes.
Accreditations are based on an evaluation of the quality standards
for teaching and research. The quality standards and the areas
evaluated are recorded in the guidelines of the SUC for academic accreditation in Switzerland.
The accreditation procedure has three steps: After the
self-evaluation of the unit seeking accreditation, an external
evaluation by independent experts takes place. Based on their results,
the SUC decides on the accreditation.
The accreditation confirms that quality standards are reached; it is granted for seven years.
The accreditation procedure is realized by the Body of Accreditation and Quality Assurance (OAQ). Applications for accreditation should be submitted to the OAQ.
